Vintage Sherry: Night Awakes

Lying in bed in the
Early morning hours
I can do nothing
But stare into the onyx cavity
Engulfing the empty space
Around my bed
Black ink spills across my room
Creating the illusion of
Nowhere
Here insomnia grips me and
Childish fears seize my mind
Paranoia causes me to
Shiver and cower
Beneath my blankets
As I pull the quilt to
My chin to secure myself
With my arms and legs
Pinned down
So slight movement would not
Attract what lurks
Behind the black curtain
Here left alone with the darkness
Regrets and worries
Seek to build a new terror
Along with the rising panic of
Being enclosed within my own
Black hole
