Another black leather glove,
keeping company with the shadows of the house light,
Two fingers curled, index and middle
A little girl’s glove, pink-white-lavender,
Horizontal stripes, dirtied,
fingers flat on the sidewalk
A child’s stuffed playmate,
a soft friend, a memory of purple-white-yellow,
face down in the subway station
“That’s the saddest thing in the world,” she said,
pointing at the missing
