Note: I felt these two brief poems were best enjoyed together.
Mid-Autumn Festival (Written: 10/4/09)
The moon is high above me,
a ring of light, crystalline and clear
Higher than the bricked apartments,
higher than the trees themselves,
Stenciled silhouettes against the sky,
leaves flash and frame it from view, as I walk
down Amsterdam and turn toward Columbus
The moon shines bright and brilliant,
a white stone against its velvet cushion,
daring dreams to take flight or dissolve
Mid-Autumn (Written: 10/5/09)
The moon is above me again, filled
to the brim with breathtaking brilliancy
The sky is the same deep, still blue
of autumn nights when the air has chilled
Suddenly, the moon dips behind a building,
severed in half by the edge of a rooftop
hiding without free will
