Short Story: The Last (Part 3)

Intermission - Edward Hopper
"I have to confess…I…I’m just so scared of dating. You know me. I’m like that Drew Barrymore character in that movie, ‘Never Been Kissed.’ I wasn’t exactly the nerdy, geeky, oily social outcast or what have you, but I’ve never been kissed. I’ve never gone out on a date. I’m not even sure a guy has ever liked me. At least, definitely not in that way.” Jillian felt a little foolish.

Shana scooped out a half-cooked egg from the stew and set it on her plate. “Honestly, I don’t think having never dated or been kissed is a big deal. Look at me, I only started dating 3 months ago, and I only pseudo-dated one other guy before that. And we all know Elohim turned out to be an immature jerk.”

“It’s not that I have a problem with being single. I really don’t. I don’t even think that much, but sometimes…sometimes I wonder: What am I missing? Am I really missing out on something? I’m 27 and the inexperience makes me feel…embarrassed.” Jillian wasn’t sure she could tackle any more of the hummus, thick and rich.
