Note: A.R. Ammons changed my view of poetry radically in college. My advisor lent me "Glare" and it was a long, long poem punctuated with beautiful, succinct observances. I realized long poems didn't have to be boring. He has a way of putting a lot of emotion and thought into very little words, and this technique is something I aspire to--sort of a post-modern haiku.
