Two Golden Girls
Two golden girls
wheeled through the golden grass
Hair pulled back, the girls
in their pastel-striped tank tops
and pink shorts, bicycled
across the field, breaking the circle of gold
with their long shadows, the sun settled low
Their dad, strolled slowly, slowly
toward them, as they bicycled across
the field, one behind the other,
on a shadowed path,
toward the east, toward the
baseball players on the school field,
watching their ball in the lowering light,
toward home,
toward home,
toward a place where light
couldn’t be extinguished
toward a place where light
was distinguished by
the softness outside
