Between the Twilight

Note: The first poem I wrote for my Advanced Poetry writing class years ago.

In the in-between of twilight
—of lavender blue—
we let go and—

I was surrounded by your colors,
but mostly the grays
were what buried me

Gray
      red-yellow-blue-greens
All the ricochet of gray

I drank the wine you held for me,
the crimson-purple-black,
and I watched you

But you had already become
the white shirt,
the red-speckled tie,
the cheesecake—half-eaten

You no longer saw me,
even when I pushed you—
you, the ironed, the wrinkle-free
