Note: The title and cover of a short story anthology called "It's Beginning to Hurt" by James Lasdun caught my eye a few months ago. There was a gorgeous cherry blossom tree on teal grass, against a blue sky. Something about the rich yet dreamy spring colors resonated with me. All the more so because the title seemed such lamentable words on such a lovely cover. While I never finished reading the book, phrases from the first short story (title escapes me) were so beautiful, I extrapolated them and decided to rearrange them here in a poem.
The instincts of desire and caution,
careening saucers of light,
calibrated a torment
Flaring rays of an eclipsed sun
annihilate the drone of thoughts,
brimming insufficiency
See the far shore:
limit of reasonable hope,
life blossoming frailly,
desire ricocheting
